People access counselling services for various reasons and only you can decide whether you need counselling or not. Usually, people seek a counsellor because there is some distress going on in their lives, perhaps you are feeling unhappy or have experienced a recent bereavement, or simply because you would like to understand yourself better. Sometimes experiences can be too overwhelming or difficult to sort out ourselves and friends and family are usually too close to you to fully understand your world.
It was a tough decision for me to see a counsellor because I do not like to open up, right from the very first session my Counsellor accepted me. I’m not sure what she did, all I know is it was the best thing I have ever done, I feel so much lighter – Client, London
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a confidential space for you to express your inner thoughts and feelings. The counsellor provides a non-judgemental and empathetic ear and will enable you to explore further the issues you are facing. The counsellor does not provide you with the answers, rather he/she will provide you with a climate that will enable you to tap into your own resources, in order to find your own answers.
Why might someone seek Counselling?
People seek Counselling for a number of reasons. Some find a Counsellor because they are finding life stressful or perhaps a particular incident has happened, for example, you have lost a loved one. Others may seek counselling because they feel unhappy but don’t know why or simply because you would like to understand yourself better or express yourself better.
