To listen to another is to understand what they are communicating verbally and non-verbally. Listening is to understand the feeling and the meaning, as it means to them.
Often we listen in an evaluative way and tend to focus more on our responses (making judgements and thinking about what you are going to say in response). Often these thoughts and feelings come from our own understanding and experiences, rather than the person we are communicating with.
